Hamburg

LINKS

most stores are closed on Sunday in Germany in general

Jungfernstieg street bordering the south side of the Binnenalster (inner lake), is the nicest central area.

south of that is the Rathausmarkt (state house building)

near that is the st. Michaels church www.st-michaelis.de

to the east is the Monckebergstraße, street with all the main stores

Mönckebergstrasse - beginning with the St. Petri Church on the corner of Bergstrasse. The small streets on either side of Mö are also full of things to see - like the glass-fronted studio of Radio Hamburg, the Versman-Haus with its sandstone facade and much more. A good tip is to go exploring off the Mö - the area around Gertrudenstrasse, Rosenstrasse and Paulstrasse has many antique shops, galleries, bookshops, record shops.

ST. Pauli and Reeperbahn is where all the bars and nightclubs are

Susannen street near the Sternschanze U-bahn has a lot of outdoor bars and cafes
Landungsbrucken is the lively port promenade area where the ferries depart, lots of outdoor vendors/food

you can see all the mansions if you drive up the west side of the Außenalster (Outer Lake)
